107th Annual Inspection

The 3rd Greenock's Annual Inspection passes out successfully.

On the evening of the 7th of May, the Company held it's Annual Inspection in the theatre of the Wellington Academy. An audience of 220 parents, family, friends and invited guests were treated to a brief insight into the work the boys have completed over the session.

Our Audience

Our Inspecting Officer, the Reverend James Simpson opened the night with the full Company gathered on parade. Following the opening inspection of the company, the company section drill squad took to the floor and successfully performed a small drill routine,  The boys doing extremely well to learn new moves and perform these in front of an audience, which they completed without putting a step out of place. Then it was the turn of the Anchor boys who played several games including High Low and flat", and "Traffic lights", before singing "Does your ears hang low" and "In a cottage in a wood."

Anchors Sing along.

Then it was on to the Junior Section who showed off their figure marching skills before performing the time honoured game of "Port and Starboard". This game is a favourite of the Junior boys' and it is just as well as Lt Smith excels in pushing the boat out. Before the end of the game the boys and the audience were equally exhausted and fatigued. The boys from the running around and the audience from the clapping and laughing at the happenings on the stage.

Which way is Starboard?

One more item was fitted in before the break and that was the Company Section mat squad.
A well rehearsed routine that was restricted to mat activities, due to stage restrictions, but none the less graceful and very active. Ok maybe not so much "graceful" as "falling with style" to borrow a term from a Disney film.

How long can he stay like that?
The squad takes up break-dancing?!

Forward rolls, headstands and yet more dives of various types made up the routine and it has to be said that from the audiences viewpoint the routine looked rather good.

The Flash, much faster that a speeding bullet!
The Gymnastic Squad moves up to Supersonic Speed.

Then it was time for the intermission, where the collection was taken, and the rush to set up the awards got under way.

Some of the Awards
Some of the much sought after Awards.

The awards for the various classes, activities and targets were presented by Mrs Moira Simpson, and covered all of the three sections in turn.

The Reverend Simpson then summed up the night before closing the Inspection for another year with a hymn and the vesper. With this Inspection 2004 drew to a close, and with it the 03-04 session. A feeling of sadness and happiness coming home to all concerned. Still in a couple of months we start all over again.

3rd Greenock wishes to thank all our Invited Guests, parents, friends for ensuring a great turnout to our Inspection and helping us to achieve a very successful  year for the 3rd Greenock company.

Thank You.

One Final note, we will be adding more photographs for this report shortly, but if you took pictures on the night and would like to see them added to this report, them please contact us and we will arrange their inclusion on the site.
